Can an ant defeat Goliath? Or rather, can Andréanne A. Malette’s new album make a number 1 even if it comes out on the same day as Taylor Swift’s?
A few hours before the simultaneous release, Thursday evening at midnight, of his album Disturbed gardens and the globally anticipated The Tortured Poets Departmentby the American mega star, Andréanne A. Malette maintains the crazy hope of reaching the top of sales in Quebec, as was the case with the release of her previous album, Sitkain 2021.
In a video publication on his Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages, humorously titled Briefcase vs Swiftshe recalls that in 1997, the film Titanic had been number 1 everywhere in the world except… in Quebec, where it had been overtaken by the first episode of the franchise The Boys.
“You see me coming,” she says to her admirers, her eyes shining.
“I am very aware that it is David against Goliath, in fact it is ants against Goliath, but I still have hope [elle montre un très mince espoir entre deux doigts] that it could work if everyone who intends to buy my album pre-orders it.”
His wish? Sell enough so that on April 19, tomorrow Friday, in a scenario that could then be described as Hollywood, Malette will have the upper hand over Swift.
“There, Taylor will be able to say: hey, who is Andreanne A. Malette?» she said with humor.
Cosmic connection
This is not the first time that the destinies of the two artists have crossed by virtue of some cosmic link which seems to unite them.
For example, the album cover Sitkawhich showed Andréanne A. Malette in a naturalistic landscape in black and white, evoked those of the albums Folklore And Evermoreby Taylor Swift, published a few months earlier, in 2020.
“Often,” Andréanne A. Malette told the Newspaper at the time, I wore something on a red carpet and the photos of her that came out in the following weeks were very similar in inspiration.”
The end of the line? When Taylor Swift announced, live on stage at the Grammy Awards, that her new creation would be released on April 19, at the same time as Disturbed gardens.
“She keeps copying me,” she laughs.
All those who have pre-ordered the physical version of her album before Friday midnight will receive a copy signed by the hand of Andréanne A. Malette which will be shipped starting next Monday.
