“
Like a child with eyes of light…” Marie Myriam is the last French singer to have won Eurovision for France. It was in 1977 in London, and since then, no artist has managed to repeat the feat, not even Barbara Pravi, who finished on second place, in 2021! This year, Slimane was chosen to wear the colors of France in Sweden in May 2024.
“I’ve been repeating myself for 47 years! But I still hope so!”
And while in November 2023, the 66-year-old singer explained to Pascal Praud “I really like Slimane, he sings divinely well”, this April 16, 2024, a few weeks before the competition, she is more determined than ever! On X, she wrote about the potential hit “My love” : “The date is approaching… I want to tell you here that I love Slimane, his sublime voice and his songs. I will watch Eurovision this May 11 and I will say nothing more: I have been repeating myself for 47 years! But I still hope so! With you, Slimane. I strongly embrace you”.
She, who had not yet listened to the title, when we asked her for her opinion the first time, 5 months ago, discovered a live version, broadcast on “Croatian Radio and Television”, HRT 1, in February 2024. Slimane finishes the last chorus far from his microphone, screaming with all his chest the highest note of the song, and his eyes full of tears. A truly moving moment.
The video had already been applauded by Cyril Féraud. The one who will not host the competition for France (it is Laurence Boccolini, Stéphane Bern, and Nicky Doll who will do it for France television) then commented: “This year is for us”.
