A new radar arrives on our roads and this time it is the noise of the engines which will be measured, if necessary sanctioned if they are too noisy. Three of these radars have just been inaugurated in Yvelines and the device is set to become widespread throughout France.

At first glance, they could look like any radar, but this one does not pick up the speed, but the sound level, to flash too noisy motorcycles. Three models installed side by side are tested in a village in Yvelines to choose the most efficient. “The objective is to isolate the noise of the passage of the vehicle, to capture its sound level, its image, for a possible sanction if the sound level is exceeded”, explains Fabien Lepercque.

Because the beautiful roads of the Chevreuse valley are very popular with motorcyclists, often large cylinders who disturb the tranquility of the surrounding villages. For the residents of Saint-Lambert-des-Bois (Yvelines), these noise-canceling radars are a relief. If they are installed, it is also because the noise has consequences on health. “It can be cardiovascular disease and disturbances of the metabolic system”, explains Fanny Mietlicki, director of the Bruitparif association. The anti-noise radar should be approved within a few months, the fines will be 135 euros and the device should be extended to several cities.
