Several women recount the sexist and sexual violence they suffered within the army. Faced with repeated violence and the retention of her attacker in the ranks of the army, Manon ended up leaving the navy.
Tongues are loosened within the “Grande Muette”. At 18, when Manon joined the navy, she boarded a ship off the coast of Brest (Finistère). The only woman on board, she works in the kitchens and then becomes the prey of another sailor. “He locked me in my kitchen and put me on the counter. Victims prefer to leave the army
Traumatized, she then remains silent. She reportedly suffered more than 60 attacks over months. Manon ends up filing a complaint. The soldier received a 10-day layoff, while she ended up leaving the navy. Her attacker is still in the ranks of the army. Another soldier also says she preferred to leave the navy because of the sexual harassment she suffered there.
