To get rid of the past, of a bad choice, of a history, more and more French people are having “tattoo removal” despite the cost of the operation.

With him, normally, it’s for life: a love story in indelible ink. One in five French people have already had a tattoo, but time passes and sometimes regrets appear. A 20-year-old young woman who can no longer see her tattoo in paint has decided to open the doors of a tattoo removal center. She wants to erase a tattoo made two years ago. “Actually, he was too big and I didn’t really see his size as they had a tattoo on my back.”, she explains. To remove the tattoo, the doctor uses a laser that sends small pulses of light. He carefully traces the outline of the drawing. Apart from a few allergic reactions, the technique is safe according to dermatologists.

An expensive operation

To complete the tattoo, it will take seven to eight sessions, or more than €1000 to pay. Since the opening of the Ray Studios center two years ago, there have been between 40 and 60 customers per day according to David Rodriguez, the founder. There are many reasons to remove tattoos. Those under 35 are those who most easily dare to make a clean sweep of the past. “People have an increasingly volatile relationship with their identity”, according to a psychiatrist. For him, the youngest have difficulty accepting what is definitive. In short, get a new look to move forward and, why not one day, decide to get a new tattoo.
