“It’s simply wonderful to be able to experience this here, in Quebec surrounded by my family. It will be quite a spectacle,” rejoices Philippe Moussette, president and co-founder of the Véga astronomy club in Cap-Rouge.

Met by the Newspaper This weekend, he said he was becoming more and more feverish as he headed to Lac-Mégantic with all his equipment on Monday to photograph the rare phenomenon.

“Everything is fixed like clockwork,” he says, laughing. I practiced a bit and got all my equipment ready. Now all that’s left to do is wait for the fun part.

“I really hope that people will benefit from it too because the next total eclipse will happen in 2106 in Quebec. We are lucky to be able to contemplate this here, at home. So you really have to take advantage of it,” he explains.

Exceptional conditions

Unlike the southern United States and Mexico where conditions will be more difficult, Quebec will benefit from almost perfect conditions to admire the spectacle while the sky should be completely clear.

“It’s exceptional to have conditions like this. There are many astronomy enthusiasts who, like me, were planning to go to the United States or Mexico, but who ultimately will come to observe the phenomenon in Quebec,” says the man who is also a press photographer.

“It’s not counted in ten people. Rather, hundreds of thousands of people will change their plans to go to Quebec, New Brunswick or Maine if they are able to do so,” he specifies.

He also explains that as part of Quebec is in the middle of the path of the eclipse and that the conditions are ideal, it will be the almost perfect recipe for capturing the moment when the moon will align perfectly between the Sun and the Earth, although the exposure will not be as long as if he had gone to Texas.
