First steps with a prosthesis. Youssef, 16, lived in Gaza a few months ago, but a bombing turned his life upside down. Youssef was going to get water when a shrapnel passed through his leg, his mother said. Doctor Raouf Salti, a Frenchman of Palestinian origin, became his guardian angel and treated him. This French surgeon is used to humanitarian missions in the Palestinian enclave. As he could no longer go there since the start of the war, he decided to bring the sick children to Switzerland.
A short-term medical visa
In Geneva, the doctor treats the bodies and tries with his team to soothe the trauma. To save his children, a whole chain of solidarity was put in place. Thanks to several NGOs and the intervention of the Swiss authorities. Since January, eight children have been cared for by Doctor Salti. But everyone is supposed to return to the hell of Gaza.
