The Canadian army will come to Quebec to lend a hand as part of the vaccination campaign for the third dose, when the Omicron variant is gaining ground in the province.
Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair made the announcement in a Twitter post Monday morning. “Following the approval of Quebec’s request for federal assistance, Canadian Armed Forces personnel will begin their deployment today to support the province’s vaccination campaign,” he wrote.
“Our officials continue to assess what other federal resources can be used to help the province fight COVID-19,” Blair continued, in a second tweet.
Up to 200 soldiers will be deployed in vaccination clinics located in the regions of Montreal, Laval, Beauce and Estrie, confirmed to Press Daniel Minden, press secretary in the office of the Minister of National Defense, Anita Anand.
On Sunday, 15,845 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Quebec. By the same date, 16% of the province’s population had received their third dose of the vaccine.
