The executive continues its fight against fast fashion. The clothing ecoscore, intended to raise awareness of the ecological impact of each textile purchase, will be implemented this fall “voluntarily and supervised” in stores and on the internet, announced the Ministry of Ecological Transition on Wednesday April 3. The government “does not exclude” to make it compulsory from 2025.

“The lower the rating, the less environmental impact the garment has and therefore the more virtuous it is”summarized the ministry, which thus wishes to allow consumers “to compare clothes with each other in a simple way” and so the “make them more responsible for their purchases”the price no longer being “the only criterion of choice” available.

A first tool, a calculation simulator intended for brands called “Ecobalyse”, is being deployed from Wednesday to professionals for consultation, according to the ministry. Once amended, the textile environmental display should be presented in May as part of a decree, before being put into service “in autumn 2024” voluntarily.=
