Giron eliminates Shapovalov in two sets in the first round of the Houston tournament

Canadian Denis Shapovalov lost 6-2, 7-5 against American Marcos Giron in the first round of the Houston tennis tournament on Tuesday.

Shapovalov, 121e in the world, committed eight double faults in the duel. Both players placed three aces.

Giron finished the match with 64% of his first balls in play, compared to 50% for the Canadian.

Giron took the first set in just 24 minutes, winning all 10 of his points on his first serve.

The American only offered Shapovalov one break point in the match, but the left-hander was unable to seize his only break point of the duel.
