Treating yourself now costs a little more. The amount of “medical deductibles”, which corresponds to the remainder payable by social insurance, doubles from Sunday March 31, in application of a decree published in February in the Official Journal. For each box of medicine or paramedical procedure, the unreimbursed amount increases from 50 cents to one euro, while the remainder increases from two to four euros for medical transport.
In the event of accumulation of acts in the same day, the amount cannot, however, exceed four euros of remaining liability per day for paramedical acts (compared to two previously) and eight euros for medical transport (compared to four previously) . The annual ceilings remain set at 50 euros. These deductibles are not applicable to minors, women on maternity leave and beneficiaries of complementary solidarity health insurance.
Faced with the deterioration of Social Security accounts, the government decided, in January, to make patients pay a little more for their healthcare consumption, by increasing the portion not reimbursed by Health Insurance and supplementary health insurance. According to the Ministry of Health, the measure should allow 800 million euros in savings per year for Social Security funds. “I think it gives responsibility and it’s a good measure”pleaded Emmanuel Macron, during his press conference on January 16.
