The federal government wants to create a tenant charter

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Wednesday his intention to create a new Canadian Tenants Charter and the equivalent of a uniform lease for all provinces.

The Charter would require landlords to provide a “clear history” of an apartment’s rents so tenants can “negotiate fairly,” the federal government announced.

The latter also wants to establish a “standard rental contract on a national scale”.

Initiatives which suggest new difficult negotiations with the government of Quebec, which has still not reached an agreement with Ottawa on the new dental care program and the immigration issue, in particular.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Trudeau in Vancouver ahead of the federal budget due on April 16.

More details will follow.
