(New York) Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and the New York Jets 28-24 on Sunday afternoon, even though Antonio Brown was sent off from the game and left the field shirtless .
After the game, coach Bruce Arians said Brown “is no longer a Buc”.
The incident involving Brown came late in the third quarter as the Buccaneers trailed 24-10. After a heated discussion with teammate Mike Evans, he took off his protective gear and sweater, in addition to tossing his gloves and tank top into the stands.
Brown then walked to the sidelines and then into the end zone, shirtless, before making his way back to his team’s tunnel, waving to the crowd at MetLife Stadium.
The wide receiver seems to have had an excess of anger, he who had then caught three passes for gains of 26 yards.
Brady joined Cameron Brate for a touchdown from the pay zone shortly after Brown was sent off. The quarterback then put the finishing touches on the Bucs’ comeback (12-4) with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Cyril Grayson with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Duvernay-Tardif was making a comeback, he who was sidelined due to COVID-19.
Eagles 20 – Washington 16
Jalen Hurts came out of tough times with no sign of weakness after a hip injury and the Philadelphia Eagles held on to defeat Washington Soccer Team 20-16.
Boston Scott had two touchdowns to help the Eagles move one step closer to a playoff berth with a fourth straight win. Depending on the other results of the day, their place could be assured before the end of the evening.
Hurts chose to run six times for 45-yard rushing gains, in addition to making 17 of his 26 passing attempts to add 214 yards through the air.
The Eagles (9-7) had another slow start, as their attacking ground game was cut by the absence of running back Miles Sanders, injured right hand.
The Eagles defense managed to reach Taylor Heinicke, however, and the Philadelphia team took advantage of the absence of many key elements from their opponents to erase a 16-7 delay.
Jake Elliott had two field goals of 42 and 41 yards in the fourth quarter, while Rodney McLeod intercepted a pass from Heinicke in the end zone to seal the game.
Dolphins 3 – Titans 34
Ryan Tannehill threw two touchdown passes and the Tennessee Titans clinched their second straight American Association Central Division title with a first loss in eight games to the Miami Dolphins by a score of 34-3.
The Titans (11-5) have won three of their four most recent games, including their last two, to ensure they finish first in their section again.
The Dolphins (8-8) became the first team in NFL history to rebound with seven wins after conceding seven straight losses. This streak allowed them to dangle a place in the playoffs, but this loss could come and spoil the party in Miami.
On a cold, rainy day, the Titans opted more for the ground game. Tannehill completed 13 of his 18 attempted passes for gains of 120 yards.
D’Onta Foreman ran 132 yards on top of a touchdown, while Dontrell Hilliard had a 39-yard rush for the middle finger after two Tua Tagovailoa turnovers.
The Titans also had three quarterback sacks against Tagovailoa, who had never suffered so much this season.
Patriots 50 – Jaguars 10
The New England Patriots confirmed their return to the playoffs by crushing the Jacksonville Jaguars 50-10.
Rookie quarterback Mac Jones threw three touchdown passes, while Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson reached the end zone twice each.
The Patriots (10-6) win ended a two-game losing streak and allowed coach Bill Belichick to add a 20e season of at least 10 wins on his record.
The Jaguars (2-14) have lost eight straight games, including three since they fired coach Urban Meyer. It was also their 17 successive road losses, the longest active streak of its kind in the league.
Jones ended the game with a 227-yard gain (22-for-30) and set a new team record by reaching the plateau of 21 touchdowns completed in one season by a rookie quarterback.
Stevenson had 107 yards on 19 carries, while Harris carried the ball nine times for gains of 35 yards before leaving the game in the second half with a hamstring injury.
Raiders 23 – Colts 20
Daniel Carlson had a 33-yard field goal on the last play of the game and the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Indianapolis Colts 23-20.
After a 41-yard field goal from Michael Badgley that tied the Colts to a tie with 1: 56 left in the fourth quarter, Derek Carr and the Raiders regained possession at their 25-line.
Carr joined Hunter Renfrow 24 yards down on a third down and 10 yards left in the last minute, leaving the field open to Carlson for his kick.
Carr aired 255 yards for the Raiders (9-7), while Zay Jones caught eight balls for a 120-yard harvest.
The Raiders will have the opportunity to cause a surprise by securing their playoff spot if they defeat the Los Angeles Chargers next weekend.
The Colts (9-7) had won three straight games, as well as eight of their 10 most recent encounters. They only need one victory to secure their place in the playoffs, but they failed to maintain their lead in the second half against the Raiders.
Chiefs 31 – Bengals 34
Evan McPherson punted 20 yards in the dying seconds of the game to confirm the Cincinnati Bengals’ first playoff appearance in six years, with a 34-31 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ja’Marr Chase set a new record for a rookie in the NFL and a brand new team for the Bengals with aerial gains of 266 yards and three touchdowns on 11 receptions.
Joe Burrow threw for 466 yards and four touchdowns to help the Bengals (10-6) come from behind after being 14 points behind.
The Chiefs (11-5) saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end and had to concede No. 1 in the Central Division of the American Association to the Tennessee Titans.
The Kansas City team led 14-0, 21-7, 28-14 during the first half of the game. She had a 28-17 lead at halftime, before the Bengals started another comeback in the second half.
Patrick Mahomes completed 26 of his 35 attempted passes for 259 yards overhead and hit two touchdowns to Demarcus Robinson and Travis Kelce.
Falcons 15 – Bills 29
The Buffalo Bills took advantage of two touchdowns from Devin Singletary to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 29-15 and at the same time confirm their place in the playoffs.
The Bills (10-6), who sit at the top of the American Association’s Eastern section, will play in the playoff tournament for the third straight season.
As for the Falcons (7-9), they were eliminated from the race in the National Association and will be absent from the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year.
Allen had his best moments of the game when he chose to run on the snow covered pitch, having reached the end zone twice. However, he threw interceptions in three consecutive possessions.
The Bills signed a third straight triumph and only need to beat the New York Jets next week to secure a second straight section title. They would thus have home advantage in the first round.
Giants 3 – Bears 29
Robert Quinn set a new team record with his 18e sack of the season quarterback in a 29-3 Chicago Bears victory over the New York Giants.
Trevis Gipson also had two sacks to help the Bears (6-10) give Matt Nagy what could be his last home win as team coach.
A wind of change could also blow on the Giants (4-12), who lost their fifth straight duel.
Andy Dalton amassed an aerial gain of 173 yards in the absence of rookie Justin Fields, who was missing a second straight game with a hip injury.
David Montgomery has reached the end zone twice, while Darnell Mooney has tallied 69 yards.
Mike Glennon had a very difficult game, to the point where the Giants practically gave up aerial play after a difficult start to the game. Glennon made just four of his 11 passing attempts, in addition to committing two interceptions.
Rams 20 – Ravens 19
Matthew Stafford was able to erase three turnovers to lead a late charge in the fourth quarter for the Los Angeles Rams to secure their fifth straight win over the small but tough 20-19 Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Stafford threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Odell Beckham Fils with 57 seconds left, just after passing a five-yard pass to Beckham on a fourth down and five yards.
The Rams then missed their transformation by two points, which opened the door for the Ravens, who were in a third straight game without starting quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Ravens, however, did not come close enough to the opponent’s end zone to attempt a placement.
The victory put the Rams (12-4) close to a second National Association Western Section title. The Arizona Cardinals need to beat the Dallas Cowboys later Sunday to stay in the title race.
At some point this season, the Ravens were 8-3 and led the American Association. The Ravens (8-8) have since conceded five straight losses, their longest losing streak since 2007, after losing nine in a row under Brian Billick. This streak led to the appointment of current head coach John Harbaugh in 2008.
The Ravens have conceded four of those five losses by two runs or less.
The loss of the Ravens excludes them from the race for the title of the North section of the American Association. Their chances of making the playoffs are not zero, however, but they will need a lot of help.
Stafford found a taker on 26 of his 35 passes for 309 yards. Two of his passes led to touchdowns.
Substituting Jackson as a starting quarterback, Tyler Huntley had 20 of his 32 passes for 197 yards. It was his third start in the NFL. He had not taken part in last week’s game since he was on the list linked to the COVID-19 protocol.
