Grace Zumwinkle scored twice in the shootout, Taylor Heise also scored in the tiebreaker and Minnesota came from behind to defeat the Montreal team of the Professional Women’s Hockey League 3-2 on Sunday.
Erin Ambrose was the only representative of the Montreal team to find the back of the net during the shootout.
Montreal took the lead just 2:36 into the first period when defender Kati Tabin scored her first goal of the season. Gabrielle David and Maureen Murphy had assists.
Murphy then put Montreal up two goals at 5:53 with his fourth goal of the season. David was also an accomplice in this net.
Minnesota rallied in the second period with two goals in 24 seconds.
Natalie Buchbinder closed the gap at 5:40 of the second period, then Lee Stecklein then brought the two teams back to an even playing field.
Nicole Hensley made 21 saves in goal for Minnesota, while Elaine Chuli stopped 33 shots.
Minnesota is now one point behind Toronto in first place in the circuit, while Montreal is five points behind the leaders.
