The final of the PGL dictation of La Francophonie took place last Friday at HEC Montréal, crowning a tie for three participants, including Aurélie Burelle, proofreader at Duty since August 2021.
Two additional sentences were necessary to decide between the leaders. They made no mistakes in the first sentence and all stumbled on the same word — oaristys — in the second, leading organizers to award a three-way tie for first place. Each winner was awarded a pair of plane tickets to a French-speaking destination by Air Canada.
The PGL dictation of the Francophonie, which was in its 3rde edition, is aimed at Canadian companies that wish to promote the French language in their activities. This year, 64 organizations were present for the dictation read by Quebec Minister of the French Language, Jean-François Roberge.
The Paul Gérin-Lajoie foundation is also at the origin of the famous PGL dictation, intended for children. The international final of the 33e edition of this flagship French event will be contested on May 19, and the finalists of 5e and 6e years from Canada, the United States, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Guinea and Morocco will put their knowledge to the test.
For the first time this year, the foundation is organizing the PGL dictation of municipalities, which is aimed at newcomers to Montreal who wish to improve their French skills. The event will include a dictation in eight boroughs next June, as well as the mayor’s PGL dictation, which will be read by Valérie Plante in September.
