“The silence is unbearable.” The Minister in charge of Equality and the fight against discrimination, Aurore Bergé, said she would like to organize “conferences to fight against anti-Semitism”in an interview with JDD from Sunday March 24. “This week I heard the call of the collective ‘We will live’ and more than 70 signatories from all political sides : I would like to organize meetings to fight against anti-Semitism”underlines the delegate minister.

Thus, Aurore Bergé responds to a column published Thursday in The worldin which a collective of political, cultural and associative figures, including former Prime Ministers Elisabeth Borne, Bernard Cazeneuve and Manuel Valls, called on European candidates to get involved “without detour and without complacency” against anti-Semitism.

“Anti-Semitism is not just a Jewish problem”

“I will invite to these meetings all the parties represented in the Assembly and the Senate, all the associations fighting against hatred, all religions”specifies Aurore Bergé, without detailing the calendar. “Anti-Semitism is not just a matter for Jews. It is the whole of society that must stand up with a clear message: the Republic for everyone, all the time, period!”she emphasizes in The Sunday Journal.

The signatories of the platform in The world highlighted the unprecedented increase in anti-Semitic acts recorded in France since October 7, the date of the bloody Hamas attack. This number was multiplied by four in 2023, according to the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France.
