Are wallpapers that catch a little too much light with their plastic finish a thing of the past? No offense to those nostalgic for the 1970s, it is indeed possible and we will not complain, because more graceful and more ecological materials are now replacing rolls of petroleum-based vinyl.
The Montreal company Muralunique claims to be the first decorative mural company to go green in Canada, with a offering of wallpapers and murals made from 85% natural wood pulp and 15% polyester fibers. Although a portion of synthetic material is necessary for the durability of the product, most of the paper remains biodegradable, emphasizes the manufacturer.
Resistant to water and scratches, this support absorbs humidity then releases it, further ensuring Muralunique. The paper therefore does not harbor mold or bacteria. For this reason, it finds its place in humid rooms such as bathrooms and even in spaces dedicated to indoor swimming pools.

Founded in 2016, Muralunique uses gel inks that are UV resistant and make the product less vulnerable to fading. With their matte finish, the papers have a more realistic look and are less shiny than vinyl wallpapers: we like them. The company sources its paper in Europe, but prints in Montreal. All the models offered on the store are also in stock in the Saint-Laurent warehouses and can therefore be delivered the same day.
The manufacturer’s range of proposals is vast and covers many themes in styles ranging from the most realistic, like photos, to the most abstract or fanciful. Failing to opt for a brand signature, he aims broad with an offer in which we should be able to find what we are looking for. There’s something for everyone, although you might have to wander around a bit before you get your hands on yours. If your budget allows, start with the premium paper collection. Still empty-handed? Muralunique offers the option of creating your own mural from personal photos.
