Since his appearance in the musical world, we have followed videos of Klaus Mäkelä in concert with delight and often enthusiasm. This is his third release on Decca and, once again, there is a gap between the relative reserve of this polished product and the biting, enthusiastic and gourmand conductor that we perceive in the concerts. Bruno Monsaingeon’s recent documentary and our interview with the chef perhaps give us the keys to all this, by showing us his passion for post-production, what we described with him as “sound Photoshop”. And when we ask ourselves “Why not more bite in this attack?” », “Why not a more frank line there? “, is perhaps that we adopted an aesthetic which corresponds more to the orange turtleneck sweater (sort of beige with color) that he wore on the cover of his Symphonies of Sibelius as well as the clichés that adorn his Stravinsky CDs. To these opulent and softened perfected Stravinsky and Debussy, we prefer sharp edges and raw colors.
