The Grand Ephémère in the Old Port

Ariane Moffatt, Alfa Rococo, Pascale Picard, Barbada: to give a taste of the festival season, many artists will be performing at the Grand Éphémère in the Old Port of Montreal from March 22 to 24. Organized by REFRAIN, which brings together around a hundred regional independent festivals, this event aims to show all the diversity of the offer during this bustling period of life throughout Quebec. We will therefore be able to see storytelling, youth theater, electro music, ambulatory performances, songs, public readings, poetry and more. The event is free, but you must make a reservation to ensure you have a place.

Marlon Craft and Bas performing

Another great week is ahead for rap fans in the metropolitan area, as Marlon Craft will put on a show this Sunday and Bas will do the same next Thursday. The first is a New Yorker who has managed to build a good reputation in the industry underground thanks to a skillful pen, sometimes introspective, sometimes humorous. He recently released the excellent play Muggsy Bugs, with Method Man – who, let’s be honest, is vastly superior. Montrealer MiQ The Burb Boy will be the opening act. Bas, born in France to Sudanese parents, is one of the brilliant MCs from the Dreamville team led by J. Cole. His fourth album, We Only Talk About Real Shit When We’re Fucked Uplaunched last year, did not achieve the success of the previous ones, but remains a work felt to be of quality.

Stolen Time at the Cinema du Parc

Stolen Time (Stolen time), a powerful feature-length documentary by Montreal filmmaker Helene Klodawsky about a lawyer’s fight against the for-profit health center industry in Ontario, is showing at the Cinéma du Parc starting Friday. Presented last fall at the Montreal International Documentary Meetings (RIDM), the film highlights the vulnerability of elderly people housed in private establishments. For four years, the director followed lawyer Melissa Miller, determined to demonstrate in court that these companies, which operate centers similar to private CHSLDs in Quebec, neglect their vulnerable clients while reaping profits. On March 23, the screening will be followed by a panel bringing together the film’s director and aging experts.

Light at the Electric Foufounes

The extravagant Lumière will make a rare visit to Montreal on Friday in a venue worthy of its stature. The return of Accents Queers Cabaret to Usine C

Designed by artists from the LGBTQ+ communities, this queer cabaret is both “intimate chronicle, humor, opinion, poetry, story, slam, song and extracts from books” and focuses on “queer issues or characters from sexual diversity and gender plurality”.
