On Saturday, Gilmore took advantage of the New Year to post some news on his LinkedIn account. Among other things, he said he was proud of the “transformative actions that we have taken both on the ground and outside”, but acknowledged that the arrival of the pandemic did not help matters.

It was on January 22, 2019 that the 50-year-old was hired by the Montreal Impact. Some decisions, including the change of logo and the adoption of the name “Club de Foot de Montréal” in early 2021, have been criticized and a wedge seemed to be created between the city’s most ardent football fans and the organization.

Before his departure, on November 2, Gilmore had to deal with several cases involving supporters of Section 132, whose access to Stade Saputo was barred for an indefinite period.

“The last 19 months have been very difficult and have had a heavy impact that I had to recognize and address,” Gilmore explained in his post. I will now take a step back and start working as a consultant again, going back to what I had been doing for three years before the Saputo family asked me to join them in 2019 to help raise their club. ”

Despite everything, Gilmore does not seem to get anything bad from this three-year stint with the Bleu-Blanc-Noir. He believes the future is bright for the team, which he left following a “mutual decision” with Joey Saputo. At the time of his departure, he had also cited a difficult context on a personal and family level, also due to the pandemic.

“The club’s Canadian Championship title defense and their participation in the Champions League are clear indicators of great things to come!” He said.

The native of Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean worked in various major entertainment and sports companies before joining the Montreal Canadiens in 2011. He held the position of Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer until to June 2016.
