Glasses: optics, a strong growth sector in 2023
(France 2)
The optics market experienced strong growth in 2023, measured between 4% and 5% in one year. A growing market due to several factors, including the aging of the population.
Prescription glasses are an expense that the French are not ready to sacrifice. In 2023, the optics market, where inflation remained limited, experienced strong growth: 4% to 5% in one year. Industry players are delighted. The turnover of Krys, the market leader, increased by 8.4%, and that of Afflelou increased by 6%. If optics is not experiencing the crisis, it is because the market is booming.
90% of octogenarians equipped
With the aging of the population, the number of spectacle wearers is increasing. Today in France, 50% of forty-year-olds and 90% of octogenarians are equipped. Another factor that drives sales: myopia. Within 20 years, almost half of the world’s population could suffer from this growing disorder due to the omnipresence of screens. By 2025, the hearing sector, which constitutes a growth driver for opticians, should also experience considerable development, in particular thanks to the 100% health reform, which provides for full reimbursement of certain prostheses.
