Retired Longueuil Municipal Court judge Jean Herbert is accused of fraud and producing false documents after an investigation by the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC).
More precisely, he is accused of having produced false records of court sessions and false judgments by default, between July 2016 and March 2019, indicates UPAC in a press release. During this period, former judge Herbert also invoiced the City of Longueuil for hours of work not worked. The amount of the fraud is estimated at more than $38,000, according to police.
In 2021, the City of Longueuil had also initiated legal action to have this sum reimbursed, in the wake of revelations made by the Bureau of Investigation of the Montreal Journal. The cause is ongoing and is not yet over.
The former magistrate, who was even a coordinating judge of the Longueuil Municipal Court, will have to appear at the Longueuil courthouse on March 26 to answer the criminal charges.
