Goodbye 2021 and welcome 2022, if the good resolutions are not always kept, the series will be there throughout January. Magic, with the long-awaited anniversary of the saga Harry potter, the mini-series A Very British Scandal, to dive into the heart of a historic divorce and the big comeback of the event series Euphoria, to look under the duvet while waiting for the sunny days.
Family reunion for Potterheads
Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone, first film of the saga, celebrates its twentieth anniversary. The story of the young wizard created by the author JK Rowling, saw the light of day on the big screen in 2001. For the occasion, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Chris Colombus, director of the first three parts, are gathered for a special show. On the program, filming secrets, exclusive actor testimonials and a look back at the conception of the eight films that have left their mark on millions of people around the world. To immerse yourself in the magical universe of the Hogwarts wizard by then, SALTO is offering the entire saga from January 1.

The great return of “Euphoria”
Bennett Street, embodied by Zendaya (Spider-man, Dune) returns for a new chapter ofEuphoria. In this season, Rue participates in narcotics anonymous to overcome her addiction, supported by her benevolent withdrawal mentor, Ali (Colman Domingo). But the heroine also embarks on drug trafficking, which she carries with her permanently in a suitcase. A decision that quickly leads him into dangerous situations… Produced by American rapper Drake, Euphoria depicts the uninhibited relationships of a group of teenagers. The characters evolve in a world where intimacy no longer exists with social networks. American youth immersed in drugs, sex and excess alcohol. The first season, released in 2019, was critically acclaimed. Zendaya (Rue) won the Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. If this new part is still mysterious, we will find the emblematic characters of the series, Jules, a young transgender teenager (Hunter Schafer) and the impulsive Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. We will note the arrival of new faces to complete the cast, such as Minka Kelly (Titans), Demetrius ‘Lil Meech’ Flenory Jr (Black Mafia Family) and singer Dominic Fike.

Supernatural and occult sect
Two destinies linked by a mysterious sect. Archive 81, it’s the new supernatural and anticipation series from Netflix, inspired by the eponymous successful podcast. Dan Turner, a young archivist (Mamoudou Athie), undertakes to restore videotapes dated 1994: this is a documentary on a sect, shot 25 years ago by Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi). The series deals with two temporalities: that of Dan, nowadays, obsessed with this affair, and that of Melody, at the time of the recording of the report. By a combination of occult circumstances, these two chronologies end up coming into contact. Dan will try to find a way to save the young woman, who died tragically in the past. Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (Vampire Diaries) is at the helm to keep the public in suspense, accompanied by a team specializing in horror, James Wan, Michael Clear (the saga Conjuring) and Paul Harris Boardman (Deliver us from evil).

British scandal
A Very British Scandal is a three-part miniseries to be devoured on SALTO in January. The story chronicles the divorce of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, a high-profile case in the 1960s in England. The beautiful duchess interpreted by Claire Foy (The Crown) is noted for its style and charisma by high society society. During the separation of the couple, her husband, played by Paul Bettany (WandaVision, Avengers), wants to destroy his image, accusing him of violence, theft and drug consumption. This historic tale produced by the BBC is in line with the miniseries A Very English Scandal, also centered on a famous English case: the trial of Jeremy Thorpe. The former leader of the Liberal party had tried to kill his lover to hide his homosexuality (available on SALTO).

“Spencer”, focus on Lady Di
Highly anticipated, this offbeat biopic on the life of Lady Diana, played by Kristen Stewart, arrives on Amazon Prime on January 17th. This film looks at the end of Lady Di’s marriage to Prince Charles. In 1991, the shadow of a divorce hangs over the couple, but with the approach of Christmas, the Princess of Wales must save appearances. The young woman, in love with freedom, suffocates under media pressure and the heavy obligations imposed by the crown. A film by Pablo Larraín, to whom we owe another biopic, that of Jackie Kennedy (Jackie). The director imagines in Spencer events that may have occurred before the couple separated in 1992.

“As We See It”, the “feel-good” series
Get to know a rather special roommate. Jack, Harrison and Violet are all in their 20s and have varying degrees of autism. Together, they will have to enter active life and achieve goals: make friends, find a job, fall in love … A quest for independence that is sometimes difficult, but which also offers great victories for the three roommates. As We See It, inspired by the Israeli series On the Spectrum, promises twists, emotions and laughter, without ever falling into melodrama.

Rivalry between fortunes in New York’s golden age
Lovers of the series Downton abbey will be delighted. Its creator Julian Fellowes, signs with Sonja Warfield a brand new series. The Gilded Age takes place in the 1880s, a period of historic growth in the United States. Marian Brook, played by Louisa Jacobson (daughter of Meryl Streep), leaves Pennsylvania after losing her father, she is taken in by her wealthy aunts in New York. A radical change of life where she will have to learn the codes and endure social wars between wealthy neighbors. She can count on her friend Peggy Scott (Denée Benton), a mysterious African-American author posing as a maid.

Murder, hallucinations and red wine
The woman who lived in front of the girl at the window, a long title that does not go unnoticed for this new series of investigation and suspense. Anna, played by Kristen Bell (The Good Place, Bad moms), witnesses from his window, an assassination among his neighbors. A crime in which she is the only one to believe, the police even accuses her of slanderous denunciation, finding no trace of the alleged murder. The young woman addicted to red wine and drugs struggles to differentiate the reality of her hallucinations. To lift the veil on this mysterious murder, she turns into an amateur investigator. If the plot is reminiscent of the thriller Window on courtyard of Hitchcock, actress Kristen Bell should add a hint of self-mockery and scathing lines which she knows the secret.
