Barely more than three months after the dismissal of Pierre Aristouy, FC Nantes is changing coaches again. Club president Waldemar Kita announced in L’Equipe the ousting of Jocelyn Gourvennec, Sunday March 17, in favor of Antoine Kombouaré. 24 hours after the home defeat against Strasbourg (1-3) during the 26th day of Ligue 1, the Nantes leader “didn’t see a way out. Despite all the sympathy we have towards Jocelyn, when you see the behavior of the players, the results, there was no revolution.“
The former Bordeaux coach therefore leaves the club with a sad record of ten defeats in fifteen games, for only one victory. To replace him, the canary board chose to turn to a well-known face: Antoine Kombouaré. Spent on the club’s bench between 2021 and 2023, the Caledonian won the Coupe de France two years ago. “I always said he was someone who knows how to manage people, someone professional. Why did we make him leave? Because we felt tired and worn out“, explains Waldemar Kita to justify the return of Kombouaré at the head of the Nantes group.
With this appointment, it is the 25th time since the 2000-2001 season that Nantes has changed coach, the second highest total in France over the period behind Marseille.
