A photoshopped photo from Kensington Palace, which was supposed to quell speculation, opened Pandora’s box during the week. This communication error did not allay the doubts and scenarios about the public absence of Kate Middleton, quite the contrary.
Where is Kate Middleton, and how is she? The question obsesses the British even though the only official photo, published two and a half months ago, turned out to be heavily retouched. The media were upset, and the written apologies from the Princess of Wales, who took responsibility for the alterations, were not enough to reassure. Since her hospitalization in January for an abdominal operation, nothing has filtered out about Kate unlike the king, who has appeared several times in public since the announcement of her cancer.
The English are investigating
On social networks, the British are shown investigating the case at the office, renamed “Kate-Gate”. Some write songs, others seek answers in taromancy and conspiracy theories abound.
Suspicion is fueled by the Palace’s lack of transparency. “At least a reassuring message or photo would have been necessary sooner, because the level of speculation has become ridiculous”analyzes journalist Jennie Bond, specialist in the British monarchy.
