The “Un jour en France” section of 20 Heures looks back at recent news. On the program, Friday March 15: holidays offered to victims of Pas-de-Calais, the demand for housing which is exploding in Normandy with the 80th anniversary of the Landings, and oyster sales in free fall in Charente-Maritime.

In Pas-de-Calais, Anne-Charlotte Lavogiez and her family dreamed of going on vacation and changing horizons. They have just won a one-week stay on the Côte d’Azur, offered in solidarity. Their house has been flooded twice since November. This summer, they will spend a week in Vence (Alpes-Maritimes) in a four-star hotel. Like them, around fifteen families of victims won a week offered by Nice hoteliers.

The sale of oysters has never been banned in Charente-Maritime

In Normandy, for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, the demand for housing is exploding. 95% of accommodations are already reserved. Prices are soaring. A studio usually rented for 146 euros per night is offered ten times more expensive. Normandy could break attendance records in 2024.

On the Charente-Maritime side, Marennes Oléron oysters fill the stalls, but are no longer sold. Customers always have in mind the numerous cases of gastroenteritis at Christmas. In Charente-Maritime, the sale of oysters has never been banned, but consumer mistrust has caused sales to drop by almost half. Marennes oysters represent 40% of national production.
