Alpes-Maritimes: thanks to the rain, Broc Lake escapes drought
(France 2)
After the heavy rains which hit the Côte d’Azur, the water tables were full. A relief from the drought that has been affecting the region for two years, particularly at Lac du Broc, in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Broc Lake (Alpes-Maritimes) is full again. Spread over 30 hectares, it has regained its splendor after two years of drought. The entire food chain has restarted in the deep waters. Fish can reproduce and water tables are recharged. “Lac du Broc is at the level of the water table, so in fact, it rises and falls at the same speed”explains a specialist.
Water restrictions due to drought
A year earlier, the lake extended into an arid area where only a few puddles remained. The walkers were walking on cracked earth. The Alpes-Maritimes experienced significant water restrictions due to the drought alert. In the village of Broc, residents remain fearful. “For spring, I think it will be fine, but this summer… The climate has changed”, underlines a local resident. Thanks to the abundant snow that fell, Lac du Broc could avoid a dry summer.
