Employer associations defending construction reform

Employers’ associations in the construction sector are pleading in favor of the industry reform tabled by the Minister of Labor, Jean Boulet, in the name of greater productivity.

The Quebec Construction Association has been leading the charge for some time now to increase productivity on site, as well as the flexibility and versatility of workers.

Last September, the ACQ unveiled a survey according to which increasing the versatility of workers could make it possible to recover 10% of working hours.

Rather, the unions believe that better planning and management of construction sites would be likely to avoid wasted time and delays.

As for the other aspect of the bill which displeases unions, namely interregional mobility of workers, the Construction Association considers it “of capital importance”.

If the unions maintain that this mobility between regions will harm workers in regions far from major centers, the ACQ believes on the contrary that the current rules which govern this mobility “slow down the economic growth of the regions”.
