Ariel Henry decided to leave his post as Prime Minister on Monday March 11. For several days, a coalition of gangs had been threatening to set Haiti ablaze if the head of government remained in place.
Under pressure from the gangs, the Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, is forced to give in. He presented his resignation on Monday March 11. “Lhe Council of Ministers agreed this evening to set up a Presidential Transitional Council. The government I lead will step down immediately after the establishment of the said council.”, explained the departing leader in a video address. It had been a few days since a coalition of gangs threatened to set the country on fire if Ariel Henry did not leave his post as soon as possible.
Many civilians killed
Scenes of rare violence broke out during the attack on an airport and a penitentiary center. Thousands of prisoners escaped and many civilians were slaughtered. The country has since been placed under a state of emergency. The population is terrified.
