(Tampa) New York Yankees power hitter Aaron Judge is expected to be healthy in time for the March 28 opener after undergoing an magnetic resonance imaging test on his abdomen.
Judge began experiencing abdominal discomfort while completing a batting swing about a week ago, and the 31-year-old veteran did not take part in an on-field batting warm-up session over the last few days. He hasn’t played since last Sunday, striking out in both of his plate appearances. However, he expects to swing swings again this week.
“We have carried out tests. Everything came back negative, Judge said Tuesday, the day after his magnetic resonance imaging test. I’m a little sore. The most important thing is the opening match, so I prefer to take a few extra days off and handle the situation intelligently. »
Judge is “fairly certain” he will be healthy for the season opener against the Astros in Houston. He continued to run and run drills on defense.
Judge missed 42 games last season due to a torn ligament in the big toe of his right foot, an injury suffered when he collided with the right-field fence at Dodger Stadium on June 3. He began his batting fitness program in November.
“I just think the fact that I started swinging again last November explains some of the fatigue I’m feeling (in my abdomen),” he explained. That’s especially true after a toe injury when you’re trying to, you know, get your mechanics back and work on some things. I think it’s sort of part of a professional baseball player’s routine. »
