At the Croix-Rousse market in Lyon, among the hundred stands, we find record bins. Those in particular of Raphaël, passionate about music since he was little. He describes himself as “a traveling record dealer”, who works in the markets, but who does not have a store. Raphaël had the trigger 15 years ago: “When I walked around the markets, among the second-hand bookstores, there were very few people selling records. Or it was one or two cases like that, on sale, and everything was a bit mixed up. And I had this idea of becoming a traveling record store”.
A village atmosphere
Since then, the traveling record store has created a clientele of regulars, even friends. He knows the Croix-Rousse district well since he grew up there. It’s a place he describes as “a little village.” When we asked him for a song to illustrate the spirit of this market, the answer came after a little time for reflection: “Pressure drop, by The Clash. There is a seller of old posters who comes to the market with a speaker and he often plays this song”explains Raphaël.
