Floods in the departments of Gard, Hérault and Ardèche left five people dead. Three missing people, including two children, are still actively sought.
In Pézenas (Hérault), the lifeless body of an 87-year-old man was found on Monday March 11. The victim was tangled in branches, his car located a few meters away. This is the fifth death found since the exceptional floods of the weekend of March 9 and 10. In Dions (Gard), the remains of another man were discovered on Monday. This is probably the father who has been missing since Saturday March 9 with his two children. They were swept away by water while crossing a submersible bridge.
Resources mobilized for research
The 40-year-old mother was able to be saved, but her children, aged 4 and 13, remain untraceable. Rescuers probed the banks of the river and explored the swampy and dangerous area with dogs. Drones flew over nearly 20 km of banks, downstream of the bridge. In Saint-Martin-de-Valamas (Ardèche), intensive research is continuing on the banks of the l’Eyrieux to find the 70-year-old owner of a hydroelectric power station, still missing on Monday.
