(Philadelphia) The Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement with former New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Monday.
Barkley is expected to sign a three-year, $37.75 million pact, of which $26 million would be guaranteed. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to speak with The Associated Press because free agents cannot officially agree with new teams until Wednesday, when the NFL’s new fiscal year begins.

The Giants labeled Barkley a franchise player last year and signed him to a one-year, $10.1 million contract just before the start of summer training camp. If Barkley had been given the Giants franchise tag this season, then he would have taken home $12.2 million.
Barkley, 27, played in 14 games last season after missing three games with a sprained ankle. He collected 962 yards and scored six touchdowns on the ground, in addition to making 41 catches for four additional majors by air.
Since joining the Giants, Barkley has rushed for 5,211 yards and scored 35 touchdowns. He also caught 288 passes for 2,100 yards and 12 additional passes through the air.
Barkley missed most of the 2020 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in the second week of the season. He struggled in 2021, before rebounding in 2022, with 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. His performance notably allowed the Giants to participate in the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2016.
