M6 is relaunching an old TF1 program on Monday March 11: “Just the Price.” It has been nine years since he disappeared from French television, although he is still going strong abroad. Number one on its time slot in the United States and Portugal, 12 countries still broadcast it. The “Just Price”, American format, is the oldest game in the history of television still on the air, it was created in 1956. In France, it appeared in 1987.
In 14 years, four presenters have succeeded one another: Max Meynier, Patrick Roy, Eric Galliano and Philippe Risoli with his microphone throwing. Vincent Lagaf was then added to the list by relaunching the show from 2009 to 2015. For this new version, the concept has not changed: the candidates must guess the price of the gifts they can win. At the presentation, Eric Antoine.
Relaunching old shows, not always a winning bet…
With this resumption of “Just Price”, we see once again that television is a recycling machine. But reviving old shows doesn’t always work. As proof: “Masterchef” or “Le Grand échquier”. The first was quickly stopped, the second is barely in terms of audiences. But there are several examples of success and the best is to be credited to TF1, which had the excellent idea of offering the “Star Academy” again after 14 years of absence. Not only is the public there, but the telecrochet is creating a buzz on social networks, a sign that young people are in favor of it.
Another winning comeback: “Only the truth counts”, with the duo Laurent Fontaine and Pascal Bataille. There, these are rebroadcasts of numbers from the 2000s. But it’s a hit on C8, with close to a million viewers each week.
…but more economical
The channels are cautious about new proposals. They are afraid of failing and losing a lot of money by launching new products. It’s more and more difficult to impose a creation. Lately, the only new program to have worked is “Les Traitres” on M6. Other than that, only failures: “Destination They will benefit from media coverage at lower costs and will coexist with strong brands, such as “L’Amour est dans le pré”, “Koh-Lanta” or “Top Chef”.
This year, “Popstars” will return to Prime Video, “Secret Story” to TF1. M6 wanted to relaunch “The Weak Link” but we don’t really know where it’s at anymore. “Loft Story” and “The Fury” – which Arthur hosted more than 20 years ago – are also being considered.
