Separate attacks | Two men stabbed in Montreal

(Montreal) Two men were stabbed overnight in Montreal, during two separate events, one of which involved the theft of a cell phone at the Langelier metro station.

A 911 call around 1:10 a.m. Saturday led police to the Sherbrooke Street metro station in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was stabbed several times.

“According to the first information received, an altercation took place following a cell phone theft […] The victim received several stab wounds to the arm and hand,” said Officer Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).

The man was taken to hospital but his life is not feared.

Two suspects were arrested.

“Two arrests were made following this armed attack. These are two men aged 19, who are currently detained by the police,” said the SPVM spokesperson.

A security perimeter was erected in the area and the canine unit was requested to the scene, searching for evidence.

Investigators will also try to get their hands on images captured by surveillance cameras in the area.

The investigation continues.

Two almost simultaneous attacks

Almost at the same time, another man in his twenties was stabbed on Clark Street, near René-Lévesque Boulevard, this time in the Ville-Marie borough.

“When the police arrived on scene, they located a man with heavy bleeding from his lower body,” said Officer Gauthier.

“The victim apparently came out of a building located on Clark Street. The victim is a 29-year-old man who was transported to a hospital to treat his injuries. The medical authorities, however, confirm that there is no danger to his life,” she said.

No suspects have been arrested following this armed attack.

The SPVM investigation continues.
