I feel like I’m living a surreal scenario.
First of all, everyone agrees that, in terms of global warming and “saving the planet”, it is one minute to midnight, or even later.
For this reason, it is imperative to take several actions. One of these actions would be the electrification of transport. One way to do this, it seems, is to produce batteries in abundance for our electric vehicles.
It is therefore imperative that companies tackle this mammoth task. One of these companies is the Swedish Northvolt.
This company is proud to contribute to the greening of our planet and lets us know that it has followed to the letter all the environmental requirements of our Canadian and Quebec governments.
Furthermore, our Quebec government ardently desires to attract as many mega-industries as possible to our country (all that remains is to find the employees, but that’s another subject). Our Minister of the Environment, Mr. Charette, revealed to us this week that the government could not afford to wait for the results of a BAPE consultation, because the very strong competition between the different companies means that, If we had to wait for the BAPE results, Northvolt would surely have gone elsewhere.
This seems to imply that, in such a climate of competitiveness, we cannot afford to wait for the results of environmental studies. In other words, companies whose stated goal is to combat the devastating effects of climate change do not have the time to ensure that their own facilities are not contributing to it themselves. And our governments cannot afford to lose such companies, which would do useful work under less careful skies…
Frankly surreal, yes.
