Since the 2021 coup, Burma has been in civil war. Journalists from France Télévisions met rebels who oppose the ruling army.
Journalists from France Télévisions entered Burma, a country at war, clandestinely. For three years, the ruling army has been fighting civilians who have joined an armed rebellion. The fighting against the Burmese army takes place district by district. The army in power, supported in particular by China and Russia, attacks the rebels every day. In Burma, the civil war has lasted since the 2021 coup d’état, which ousted Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi from power.
The death toll estimated at 50,000 since the start of the civil war
Since then, tens of thousands of civilians have joined forces with armed ethnic groups to fight a regime that has regained full control of power by force. The rebels claim to have retaken 50% of the territory, but the junta retains the large cities and control of the sky. Since the coup, the intensity of the bombings has been such that two million civilians have had to flee their homes to find refuge in makeshift camps. Since the start of the war, 50,000 people have lost their lives, including 8,000 civilians.
