France 2 recruits Tomer Sisley to host a new show on history, Stéphane Bern on the sidelines

For almost twenty years, Stéphane Bern
is the history man of France Télévisions. He runs the magazine History Secrets since 2007, the magazine Let yourself be guided since 2018 alongside Lorànt Deutsch, and has also hosted other shows that have now stopped, such as If the walls could speak between 2020 and 2021, and The fabulous story between 2018 and 2019. The royal public service host has also been embodying the annual broadcasts for more than ten years The favorite monument of the French, The French’s favorite village or even more recently The French’s favorite farm.

Unfortunately, Stéphane Bern has just learned some bad news: as revealed by our colleagues at Parisian, France 2 has just validated the broadcast of a new program dedicated to history, but he will be neither the narrator nor the host. Indeed, Delphine Ernotte and Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez chose actor Tomer Sisley to embody a brand new historical documentary series in six episodes, which will be broadcast next season in prime-time. In this new show, Tomer Sisley will give pride of place to the great faces of French history. This first season, which will be followed by a second if the audiences follow, will focus on the period from Vercingétorix to Henri IV.

This new proposal, halfway between a show and a documentary series, will be called Our History of France. Tomer Sisley will have the heavy task of embodying one of the French historical figures in each episode, in major reconstructions in which other key faces of French history will participate, such as Clovis and Joan of Arc, and which will, in fact, be interpreted by other actors. The production managed to validate filming in historic French sites, such as the medieval cities of Provins and Pérouges.

The man of all success

Tomer Sisley is not a random choice. The actor, who is preparing to celebrate his 50th birthday next summer, is one of the most popular faces on French television. He is notably the hero of the TF1 series Balthazar, discontinued in February 2023 after five successful seasons. In 2023, we also saw him on France 2 in the science fiction series Vortex

, which received critical acclaim and attracted more than 3.6 million viewers. The actor will soon be seen in the cinema, in a third opus of Long Winch baptized The price of moneyin which he will respond to Clotilde Hesme. A role that he played in 2008 and 2011, in the first two parts of the trilogy.
