An accident occurred on Monday March 4 on the Toulouse metro construction site (Haute-Garonne), during the installation of the future viaduct. “Around 5 p.m., a segment of the viaduct being installed suddenly collapsed., explains Gilles Dolfi, general manager of Bouygues Travaux Publics Région France. Just after the accident, emergency services surrounded one of the victims. One of the employees present on the site died, three others were injured.
The workers were on scaffolding
An employee of a nearby restaurant witnessed the accident. “I heard a big bomb. I got closer and I saw that there were people screaming”, indicates Théo Terrier, restaurant employee in Labège (Haute-Garonne). According to the first hearings in the investigation, the workers were on scaffolding and not on the concrete structure. A jack between two piles would have failed. Seeing the structure of the apron deform, four men jumped around ten meters.
