a young 7-year-old migrant dies drowned when a boat sinks

A walker gives the early warning, Sunday March 3 in the morning: a boat is sinking in the Aa canal (North). On board, 16 migrants including 10 children who have just boarded. Among them, a young child of 7 years old died by drowning. The tragedy occurred in Watten (North), at 30 kilometers from the coast. Migrants left from inland to reach England, a process increasingly used to avoid surveillance on beaches.

An investigation into manslaughter opened

The survivors were taken care of by emergency services. Ten of them have been transferredres at the hospital and five were received in a community room. The Dunkirk public prosecutor’s office (North) opened an investigation into manslaughter. This is already the third time this year that the attempt to cross the Channel leads a death.
