In My mother’s life, Agnès Jaoui plays the role of a bipolar woman, alternating phases of exaltation and depression. These disorders affect more than 1.5 million people in France. “It’s a difficult illness (…) for those around them. In these families, relatives, children, brothers and sisters are also afraid of being affected by this illness”confides the actress to France 2.
A committed actress
As in her previous film, Agnès Jaoui plays the role of a Jewish mother. A disturbing coincidence, as his family was hit hard by the massacre of October 7. “It is time for men or women of peace to regain control of all these populations, who are suffering and who do not understand what is happening to them”, she comments. For years, the actress has been fighting against sexism in cinema. “We are still far from parity”she laments, before adding: “Women over 50 make up more than half of the French female population. On screen, they make up 7%.”
Recently awarded an honorary César, the seventh of her career, Agnès Jaoui notes that they are “very practical for propping up books”.
