Children dying of malnutrition or dehydration in Gaza is the finding of Unicef which once again raises the alarm about the situation within the Palestinian enclave. A phenomenon observed in a hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.
Doctors had almost gotten used to the power cuts in Gaza’s hospitals; they now have to deal with the starvation of infants. In the pediatric unit of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, four babies died this week and several others are in intensive care. Apart from infusions of saline or glucose solutions, the hospital appears to be very poor.
One in six children under 2 years old suffers from acute malnutrition
The tragedy also hits older children because malnutrition leads to medical complications, sometimes tragic. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates today that one in six children under the age of 2 suffers from acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip. The older ones spend their days trying to escape it.
