Cody Bellinger is returning to the Cubs after agreeing to a three-year deal, the Chicago club announced Tuesday evening.
The 28-year-old played his first campaign with the Cubs in 2023, after spending the first six years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Bellinger set a career-high .307 batting average last season, appearing in 130 games.
He collected 26 home runs, 97 RBIs and 20 stolen bases, playing in center field and first base.
The NL Rookie of the Year in 2017, Bellinger was a National League All-Star in 2017 and 2019 – in the latter case, he was also named the league’s Most Valuable Player.
Bellinger helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020. In 18 postseason games that year, he hit four home runs and drove in 13 runs.
He had surgery on his right shoulder in November 2020.
The Cubs will begin their regular season on March 28 in Texas against the Rangers, the defending World Series champions.
