Distressed, ruined or on the verge of bankruptcy, more and more breeders are launching fundraising on the Internet to try to get by. A united approach that sometimes bears fruit.
This bad weather night of October 28, 2023, Aurélie Mijailovic will remember it all her life. His 80 sheep and 40 goats are trapped on a plot of land between the Loire and a neighboring canal. The herd is carried away by the current. A shock for this breeder, today on the verge of bankruptcy: “A herd like that represents 20,000 euros, and the two years of turnover that we will lose, that represents 100,000 euros”. She and her partner now receive the RSA. To get by, they created a fundraiser on the Internet. With 6,900 euros, the amount raised is still modest, but the approach has changed everything. The bank decided to help them: “They will do what is necessary to release our loans so that work can resume”.
“I saved my farm”
These calls for help via online funds are increasing. Farmers often strangled by debt, sometimes with unexpected popular support at the end. Delphine Serreau has just obtained more than 200,000 euros: “Whatever happens now I saved my farm”. She launched her kitty in December 2023. A hay supply problem and several errors in production seriously threatened her activity. She can now repay her debts.
