Quebec announced Thursday, December 30 the return of the night curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. throughout the province as of New Year’s Eve. These new restrictions come at a time when record contamination due to the spread surge of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 are recorded in Canada.
“It’s a gesture that is extreme because the situation is extreme”, declared the Prime Minister of Quebec François Legault during a press point, evoking the need to “save hospitals and save lives”. Private gatherings will now be limited to the family bubble.
Two weeks ago, the province had already reinstated gauges in bars, restaurants and shops to limit the spread of the Omicron variant. Quebecers had also been asked to limit private gatherings during the holidays with only ten people allowed around the table.
