The Netflix platform will broadcast a documentary on the departure of the Expos 20 years ago. This is the first project resulting from an agreement signed last fall between the online distribution giant and the production company Attraction.
The documentary, as yet untitled, will be directed by Jean-François Poisson, a multiple award-winning documentary filmmaker, to whom we owe in particular 35 days of darkness covering the 1998 ice storm. Marie-Christine Pouliot and Richard Speer will act as executive producers.
The existence of this first project between Attraction, a major television and cinema producer based in Montreal, and Netflix, was revealed early Wednesday by the American site Variety. Netflix then confirmed it on the social network
The film is interested, according to Variety, to the setbacks that led to the departure of the Expos. The documentary will notably discuss the conflicts between the then owner, Jeffrey Loria, and the city of Montreal over a new stadium.
Netflix signed an agreement with Attraction last fall giving it first-look rights to the Montreal producer’s projects.
