For many French people, meat and charcuterie are essential on their plates. Meat weighs heavily on our greenhouse gas emissions because cows chew their cud and emit methane, which contributes to global warming. Food represents 22% of our carbon footprint. So, some are ready to give up a few steaks.
Vary your menus
A balanced diet, but with respect for the environment: this is what a study by several environmental associations, grouped in the “Action Climat” network, and the French Nutrition Society calls for. We would need to halve meat consumption to achieve our climate goals in the food sector. The study recommends not eating more than 450 grams of meat per week, varying your menus. Doctor Jean-Michel Lecerf, nutritionist, indicates that the report therefore suggests increasing the share of plant proteins consumed, particularly dried vegetables.
