The pandemic will have finally got the better of the New Year’s festivities. The meteoric rise in COVID-19 cases across the country is prompting many organizations to cancel their New Years events.

“Avoiding gatherings in order to ensure the safety of our employees and our visitors is our priority,” the organization of the Old Port of Montreal mentioned on Twitter, announcing the cancellation of the celebrations planned for Friday evening.

Similar situation in Quebec

Quebec City is not immune to this wave of cancellation. On December 20, the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, announced that the New Year’s festivities planned in the provincial capital were canceled.

Several other municipalities in Canada, including the city of Mississauga in Ontario, have also had to face the facts and cancel their celebrations. The city of Toronto has, for its part, opted for a virtual show to mark the start of the year 2022.
