Originally from Ukraine, a girl, her mother and her grandmother face the challenge of exile together in Vienna, Austria, as the hope of a return to their country fades.

A Ukrainian grandmother, mother and granddaughter planned to stay in Vienna (Austria) for just a few months. They fled their country two years ago. Today, they are trying to integrate, because the hope of returning to their country is inexorably fading away. “Today my hometown, Mykolaiv, was attacked. The future of Ukraine is unclear. The war will not end in one or two years”believes Maryna Troshchenko, Ukrainian refugee and mother of Katya.

Six million Ukrainian refugees have fled to Europe

After months of uncertainty and hardship, the family finally moved into their own apartment. If they live far from the bombs, the trauma is still very present. Katya Troshchenko, 17, keeps photos of her exile from Ukraine in her phone. “My father and my brother are in Ukraine”, she says. Like them, six million Ukrainian refugees fled to Europe. An unprecedented wave since the Second World War.
