Will Europe find itself increasingly alone in the face of Russian expansionist desires? At the International Security Conference in Munich, the idea of a European defense resurfaced.
This is the annual meeting of the elite of European defense: the Munich Conference (Germany). It has become more essential than ever, at a time when Ukraine is running out of ammunition, and the 60 billion American aid is blocked in Congress. The European Union knows that it must further accelerate its rearmament, not only to help Ukraine, but also to protect itself. “The European Commission will present a defense industrial strategy in three weeks”indicates Ursula von der Leyen.
2% of Germany’s GDP allocated to defense
The feeling of urgency is no longer shared only by the countries bordering Ukraine, such as Poland or Romania, but also by the countries of the West. In France, Emmanuel Macron wants to regain control of his production. The military programming law plans to allocate 16 billion euros, just for ammunition. In Germany, the country will devote 2% of its GDP to defense.
